TOURNAMENT HISTORY

The Ty Shields Memorial Fund was founded in 1996 after Ty, a beloved friend, brother and son, lost his fight with Leukemia.  We raise nearly all of our money at our annual golf tournament.  Since it's inception, the fund has awarded $150,000 in scholarships to worthy Mt. Lebanon graduates intending on continuing their education beyond high school.  The current award is at $15,000 - which is the second highest award available to Mt. Lebanon seniors.

We have also donated $20,000 to both the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and The National Bone Marrow Registry - 2 groups that were very good to Ty during his illness.  Our other primary recipient is Camp Kon-O-Kwee Spencer - where our $20,000 in contributions helped to build a cabin in Ty's name.   In 1976, the year Ty was born, the survival rate for Leukemia was 35 percent.  Today, survival rates are 50 percent.   We are proud to contribute to such progress.

We hope you can join us for golf and/or dinner at Quicksilver this year.  Beyond your participation in the actual event, we would certainly appreciate any and all contributions you can spare - whether they be auction items, cash donations and/or hole sponsorships.   Please contact us at info@tyshieldsgolftournament to discuss any contributions.

In addition to raising scholarship funds, we feel that it is equally important to foster a continued sense of community each and every summer on Ty's behalf.  The Shields Family and the Board of Directors sincerely thank all of you that have supported the tournament through the years.  And we know that Ty would be incredibly flattered that we have gotten together to celebrate his life after all these years.  He would likely say something like...  'it's the least you can do to honor such a handsome, intelligent and charming person'.

Note: The Ty Shields Memorial Fund is a 501(c)3 charity registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Bureau of  Charitable Organizations.
